00:28 Tim Strifler: Hey everyone welcome to another episode of WP The Podcast, I’m Tim Strifler, and today we are talking about the school of youtube versus a paid online course. So what i mean by the school of YouTube, there’s nothing called the school of youtube but basically it’s just going on youtube and learning that way. So say for example you want to learn web design, well you could go and buy a paid online course or you can go on youtube and just start searching for things and finding different videos and stuff like that. Now this is essentially how i learned i implemented what i called the just in time learning method. I’m not the only one that calls it that’s basically what it’s called which is i learned what i needed when i needed it and so it’s like okay i’d get stuck i’d do some googling find either an article or a video or something a forum post and it would sometimes usually it would solve my problem, and then i would keep going and then if i get stuck again. I’d do some more searching. Now while this may work for some people and it it worked for me it ends up being a longer approach to learning and you end up with a lot of learning gaps, and i can speak from experience and the reason is because you don’t know what you don’t know. So when you are doing like searches and and different things like that you might get that answer to that exact issue that you’re having in that moment but you don’t understand the big picture, you don’t understand why it works a certain way, and different things like that. And typically when you are trying to learn on youtube or free content on the internet stuff like that it’s like you’re cherry picking different things from different people rather than going in order from a you know from start to finish on whatever the the course goal is. And so for that reason i think a paid online course has a lot of value because it’s going to be more sequential in terms of uh what you need to know, when you need to know, what type of thing opposed to when you’re just on your own out there on the internet on youtube on blogs. You don’t really know what you need except for to solve that immediate issue, and so so obviously i’m a little bit biased because David and i have some courses together, uh we just launched or we are launching or in the process of launching it launches august 1st the WordPress and Divi Beginner Course, and it’s targeted to people that are brand new, and want to get familiar with building websites online. It’s not going to teach you every little thing, but it’s going to teach you what you need to know when you need to know it in terms of getting that first website, getting that that foundation of website building online. So if you are listening and you are interested in that you can learn more at wpgears.com and then under the course tab you’ll see the WordPress and Divi Beginner Course, you can click on it and see all everything that’s included what we cover and that sort of thing. So that is my opinion the school of YouTube, the school of the internet versus a paid online course actually learning stuff in order uh from the same person and and so forth um but your your mileage may vary so if you have another experience and you disagree we’d love to to hear your thoughts. Yeah definitely reach out and let us know. So tomorrow we are going to talk about how to learn to build websites with WordPress when you are brand new, so kind of kind of continue this education topic into tomorrow’s episode. So until then take care bye.
