4 Ways to Create Redirects in WordPress

  1. What is a redirect and why would you need one? 00:55
    • A redirect is essentially telling the browser to go somewhere else.
    • For example, say you removed a page on your website, so you want that page to redirect to your homepage.
    • One benefit is that your users don’t get lost by a broken URL.
    • The other benefit is for search engines. They really don’t like broken links!
    • There are two types of redirects. 301 redirects are permanent, while 302 redirects are temporary.
  2. Use a Plugin 02:41
  3. Create manually through the .htaccess file 03:18
  4. Cpanel/hosting level 05:13
    • You’ll find this in the Domains section of your Cpanel.
    • This is another easy way to set up redirects.
  5. Use Cloudflare 06:17
    • Cloudflare is awesome for a variety of reasons (Just listen to Episode 36!)
    • Another great benefit is that you can create redirects in WordPress. They call it URL forwarding.
    • It’s going to create redirects directly at the DNS level.
