WordPress Plugin Highlight: Connect Sendgrid for Emails

00:38 David Blackmon: And today i’m going to let Tim do a plug-in highlight because he’s our resident tech guru, and we’re going to talk about why it’s important to connect Sendgrid for emails. Go Tim.

00:51 Tim Strifler: Yeah absolutely. So just a reminder with their plug-in highlights. We are not highlighting the big premium plugins or the big free plug-ins that you already know about. The goal with these are to highlight lesser-known plug-ins that are small but very impactful for what they do. And so, that’s kind of the trend that we’re trying to follow here. So with this plugin it’s called Connect Synchron for emails. Now we’ve talked a lot about the importance of having good deliverability with your WordPress email. So when you’re doing a password reset email or a contact form email, you want to make sure that those emails are getting to you or to the customer. If it’s an email receipt on an e-commerce site. And so the way you do that is by doing either one of two things. One is to use a email transactional email service such as Sendgrid, that’s the number one uh recommendation. Um or the the second option is to use smtp and connect it to like a Gmail or account. So rather than sending through WordPress it sends to Gmail which works too. Um but you get a lot more control and a lot higher reliability with a transactional email service such as Sendgrid. And so for an e-commerce site especially, or for if you have an online business that’s making money use something like Sendgrid. You’re going to get the best results possible and so um the downside to to using synchron though is there uh they had a plug-in for WordPress for connecting cigarette to WordPress that stopped being updated, and had some security vulnerabilities and stuff. However David’s team Aspen Grove Studios, they created they forked the plug-in fixed the issues, and so they have a version in the repository called Connect Sendgrid for Emails. Again it’s by Aspen Grove Studios, and so um they fixed the issues and they keep it updated and stuff. And it they needed it for their own purposes. And so they shared it with the world to be able to use it as well. So it’s an awesome plug-in it did exactly what the official Sendgrid for WordPress plugin did, except for it doesn’t have security vulnerabilities and it’s actually being updated. So which is pretty cool. So yeah props to Jonathan and Corey and David’s team for doing that fixing those issues and putting it out there for everyone to be able to benefit from
