Mock Ups Tools We Use When Designing a New Website

Designing a mock up for your website isn’t always necessary, but when it is, you should be prepared with the best tools. For more information on when you should create a mock up, check out episode 61.

1. Old fashioned pencil and paper 01:03
   • If you’re not a graphic designer and you don’t know how to use Photoshop, Illustrator, or any of the other tools mentioned in this episode, you can just draw it out on a piece of paper.
2. Balsamiq 01:57
   • This software basically takes the idea of a pencil and paper mock up and makes it digital.
   •  It has that hand-drawn effect and shows you where the elements will go in the design.
3. Mindmeister 03:13
   • This is a tool that David uses to design the flow of a website, the menu structure, and the inner pages of the site, not necessarily to design the layout.
4. Photoshop 05:00
   • Usually Photoshop is used to make a full mock up of a website, as opposed to just a wireframe of the layout of a site.
   • Making this type of mock up is not always necessary, depending on the project. For a small budget project, it isn’t probably necessary. For a larger budget project, you might consider making a full mock up.
5. Divi 06:28
   • David and Tim both use Divi’s template library functionality to quickly prototype website mock ups.
6. Trello 07:03
   • You can use this tool similar to Mindmeister to lay out the content for a website.
   • The other features of this software make it great for collaboration with a team and overall project management.
